Disclosed is a drum type washing machine improved such that a balancer is stably supported at a surrounding structure. The drum type washing machine comprises a body, a rotating tank installed rotatably within the body, and the balancer installed at a front member and a back member of the rotating tank and including a first housing and a second housing being coupled to each other and forming a sealed internal space and a plurality of mass bodies movably arranged in the internal space. A ring shaped recess is arranged along an edge of the front member and the back member and the balancer is installed in the ring shaped recess. The first housing of the balancer includes a first wall and a second wall facing each other and a third wall connecting the first wall and the second wall to each other. The second housing includes a curved part wrapped around an upper outside of the first housing by being bent toward the first housing at an end of the second housing. A support rib, protruding outside the first wall of the first housing to which a centrifugal force is applied by mass bodies at rotation of the rotating tank, is arranged. The height of the support rib protruding outside the first wall is equal to that of the curved part protruding outside the first wall. |
