PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for mapping.SOLUTION: The method for mapping includes measuring coordinates of a first set of points on a first surface of a first portion of a three-dimensional (3D) element and generating a first volume enclosed by the first set of points. The method also includes measuring coordinates of a second set of points on a second surface of a second portion of the 3D element and generating a second volume enclosed by the second set of points. The method continues by connecting the first volume and second volume so as to form a combined volume, and generating coordinates of a third set of points on a third surface of the combined volume so as to form a 3D surface map of the element.
