An apparatus and a method for generating header information of stereoscopic image data are provided to transmit and store the stereoscopic image data efficiently using a header information which essential to stereoscopic image format. A 3D playback section information recorder(410) records 3D playback section information about 3D stereoscopic image among image data recorded on the payload area to the header area of the image bit stream, and outputs to a video recorder(470). A camera information recorder(430) records camera information of the stereoscopic image obtaining camera, and outputs the record to the video recorder. A parallax information recorder(450) records the parallax information between a standard time point image, and an added time point image to the header area, and outputs the record to the video recorder. An arrangement information of the standard time point image, and the added time point image is inserted to the image bit stream. |
