There is presented a method (800) for estimating diffusion metric (W ¯), wherein the diffusion metric (W ¯) is proportional to a trace of a kurtosis tensor (W), the method com prising obtaining (S_M1) a first, second and third measure (M1, M2, M3) of the diffusion weighted signal with b-values, b1, b2, and b3, wherein the directions a re chosen so that it is possible to estimate (S_D¯ ) the mean diffusivity ( D ¯) from the first a nd second measure, and further possible to estimate (S_W ¯) the diffusion metric (W¯ ) from the mean diffusivity ( D¯ ) a nd a sum over the third measure (M3), in particular since tertiary set of directions is arranged so that the sum over the third measure (M3) is directly related to the diffusion metric (W¯ ). The invention may in particular be advantageous for enabling a method for rapidly obtaining a kurtosis related measure. |
