The present invention relates to a device and a method for detecting damage to a catalyst, capable of detecting the damage to the catalyst by comparing an air amount calculated from a throttle with an air amount obtained by a MAP sensor when the air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas in an overlap section of the CVVT angle of a vehicle is lower than a theoretical air-fuel ratio, thereby detecting the damage to the catalyst using a basically mounted sensor without an extra detecting equipment or sensor, and reducing the danger of damage to an engine through the quick detection of the damage to the catalyst. |
