The alloy comprises 15-25 wt.% of chromium; 0.5-10 wt.% of at least one carbide-element taken from a set comprising molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, niobium, zirconium, and titanium; 5-25 wt.% of manganese, 0.1-0.9 wt.% of nitrogen; 0.1-1 wt.% of carbon; 0.1-2 wt.% of impurities and other metals, and up to 100 wt.% of iron, in replacement of the mass equivalent to iron in the alloy. #CMT# : #/CMT# Stainless steel alloy comprises a base comprising chromium and iron and arranged in an austenitic face centered cubic structure and super-austenitic type comprising manganese and nitrogen. The alloy comprises 15-25 wt.% of chromium; 0.5-10 wt.% of at least one carbide-element taken from a set comprising molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, niobium, zirconium, and titanium; 5-25 wt.% of manganese, 0.1-0.9 wt.% of nitrogen; 0.1-1 wt.% of carbon; 0.1-2 wt.% of impurities and other metals, and up to 100 wt.% of iron, in replacement of the mass equivalent to iron in the alloy. The ratio of nitrogen to carbon is 0.125-0.5. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# The stainless steel alloy is useful in a spring, preferably a mainspring of watch and jewelry (all claimed). #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The stainless steel alloy can be economically prepared with improved ductility in an industrial manner. #CMT#INORGANIC CHEMISTRY : #/CMT# Preferred Composition: The stainless steel alloy further comprises 0.5 wt.% of at least one carbide-element other than molybdenum taken from a set comprising tungsten, vanadium, niobium, zirconium and titanium, in replacement of an equivalent mass of iron in the alloy. The alloy comprises less than 0.5 wt.% of nickel. Preferred Components: The total amount of carbon and nitrogen is 0.6-1 wt.%, preferably 0.75-1 wt.%. The ratio of nitrogen to carbon is 0.35-0.5, preferably 0.4-0.5. The carbide-element comprises 2.5-4.2 wt.% of molybdenum. The chromium is present in an amount of 16-20 wt.%. The carbon is present in an amount of 0.15-0.3 wt.%. The nitrogen is present in an amount of 0.4-0.75 wt.%. The manganese is present in an amount of 10-16 wt.%, preferably 11-13 wt.%.
