The device has a toggle joint arrangement (3) that is located in a clamping head (1) formed on the housing. A tab assembly (30) is coupled to the arrangement. The longitudinal axes (34) of the guide grooves (33) are arranged offset in the direction of the clamp arm (5). A base portion of the pin (36) is transversely penetrated. A spindle (13) receives a fork shaped space on the housing-fixed swiveling axis (4) of the clamp arm whose side is faced away from the interior (2) of the clamping head, and is rotatably mounted at the two ends of the bearings (18,25). The coupling portion (21) is provided parallel to the longitudinal direction of the guide grooves. Several guide rollers (35) are forcibly guided with low friction. A nut (12) is coupled with the coupling portion of the toggle joint arrangement by gearing.
