<p>The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0903185/IV (b)/1> where R1 and R2 are hydrogen, alkyl or aryl, X is S or O, and R3 and R4 are methyl or ethyl groups; and their preparation by reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:0903185/IV (b)/2> where Hal is Cl, Br or I, with a compound <FORM:0903185/IV (b)/3> where Me is alkali metal or ammonium. The above halides are prepared by esterifying the cyanohydrin derived from R1COR2 with the a -halo-a -phenylacetic acid in the presence of anhydrous pyridine and petroleum ether a 0 DEG C. The compounds of the invention are pesticides (see Group VI).ALSO:The invention comprises pesticidal compositions containing a carrier and a compound of formula <FORM:0903185/VI/1> where R1 and R2 are hydrogen, alkyl or aryl, R3 and R4 are methyl or ethyl, and X is oxygen or sulphur (see Group IV (b)). The carriers can be solid, liquid or semi-solid, and the compositions can be used in the form of aerosols. Wetting agents, adhesives, dispersion agents, emulsifiers, fertilizers, or insecticides such as phosphoric esters, DDT, g -hexachlorocyclohexane and octochloro-4,7-methano-tetrahydroindane, may also be present. Examples use aqueous dispersions or acetone or dimethylacetamide solutions of the active ingredients.</p> |
