The process involves providing a workpiece (1) by a clamping tool in a locally heated forming zone (I) surrounded by an external tool. The workpiece is compressed with a compression mandrel axially, so that wall thickness of the workpiece is increased in an outer side of the tool. A cross-section of the workpiece is tapered from one end to the forming zone extending to a dragging region. An annular step surface is provided to extend radially and connected at right angle to cylindrical outer surfaces in a longitudinal section of the workpiece.
