The picking device (1) has a shelf system (22) having several shelves (20) that are traveled through respective travel paths (28) of shelf system. A load receiving unit is moved continuously or stepped between fully extended position and retracted position, such that extension path of load receiving unit is controlled based on type, number or dimensions of goods. The holding arms are provided for fixing position of goods on shuttle vehicle (18). A control unit is arranged to control shuttle vehicle such that different goods are movable along predetermined shelves in succession.
