Provided are: a coating liquid for water repellent films, which is capable of forming a water repellent film that has excellent heat resistance, while exhibiting excellent water repellency even if exposed to high temperatures of 600°C or more; and an article with a water repellent film, which has a water repellent film that is formed from this coating liquid for water repellent films. A coating liquid for water repellent films, which contains a water repellent agent and a medium. The water repellent agent contains a reaction product that is obtained by hydrolysis-condensation of (a) a tetrafunctional alkoxysilane and (b) an oligomer of (&bgr;) a trifunctional alkoxysilane having an alkyl group.
