The present invention relates to a method for detecting an indoor position based on images and a mobile terminal using the same and, particularly, to a method for detecting an indoor position based on images which can detect a user indoor position only with images and an indoor map without separate image database and a mobile terminal using the same. In order to achieve this, the method for detecting an indoor position based on images according to the present invention comprises the following steps of: (a) obtaining more than one images of user directions using a built-in camera in a user terminal; (b) extracting a feature of the inside of a building from the obtained images corresponding to a user direction; (d) matching the user direction and the extracted image feature to indoor building map information; and (e) estimating the user terminal position through the image and map matching process.
