The method involves determining a position of a vehicle (10) i.e. car, associated with and located outside of the vehicle. Parking operation of the vehicle is controlled in response to evaluation of position of a reference device (11) by setting a travel speed of the vehicle during input or parking operation in dependence on position of the reference device by determining a destination location for input or parking operation in dependence on position of the reference device and/or determining a direction for the input or parking operation in dependence on position of the reference device. An independent claim is also included for a system for controlling parking operation of a vehicle.
