The method for producing a positive electrode active material includes a producing step for producing a complex oxide having a layer structure with excess lithium manganese that is represented by the chemical formula of Li(Li_x-z(Ni_aCobM_nc)_1-x]O_2-yF_y (wherein, a+b+c=1, 0.05 <= x <= 0.33, 0 <= y <= 0.08, 0 < z <= 0.05); and a coating step for coating a surface of the complex oxide with metalloid fluoride by mixing the complex oxide with metalloid fluoride in a dry coating facility and the performing heat treatment on the mixture.
