A fuel cell using gaseous materials employs a gel-like electrolyte comprising a mixture of magnesium hydroxide and a solution of an alkali metal hydroxide to prevent gas escaping into the electrolyte. Electrodes 1 and 2 are of porous nickel on a backing of perforated plates 26. The current is led off at 27, 28 insulating rings 11 preventing short-circuits. The electrodes may be as disclosed in Specification 667,298. |
