The assembly (2) has a seal (14) comprising a sealing ring (20) i.e. rotary shaft seal, arranged adjacent to a shaft (4) and another sealing ring (22) arranged adjacent to housing (6). An intermediate ring (30) is freely rotated between the sealing rings. One of the sealing rings rests directly to the intermediate ring. The intermediate ring has a Z-shaped cross section along axial direction (x), and extends parallel to the shaft. A connecting leg (36) extends radially and/or a leg (34) has smaller distance to the shaft than another leg (32). An independent claim is also included for a combustion engine.
