The equipment has an actuator (4) releasing a brake wedge mount (13) with a movable brake lining, where the equipment biases a tightening unit (3), the mount and the lining against a brake track with a biasing force in an unreleased activated state. A part of the lining retightens the tightening unit, applies a tightening force on the mount and the lining and produces a braking force directed against the direction of travel of the equipment in the state and a following relative movement of the equipment in a direction of travel, where the braking force is defined by the tightening force. An independent claim is also included for a method of holding and braking an elevator car in an elevator installation with a brake equipment. |
