[Class 80 (ii)] Three gear-shifting levers 29, 30, 31, of a turret-lathe, change-speed gear, are preselectively actuated by a disc 6, which has three concentric series 20, 21, 22 of selectively placed holes (or projections) of varying depth, each series co-operating with a pair of axially sliding plungers, 25, 26; 24, 27 and 23, 28, depending respectively from opposite ends of the individual gear-shift levers 29, 31, so that an upward axial stroke of the disc 6 will move the levers into any combination of positions previously selected by rotation of the disc. As shown, each lever 29 &c. has three positions, giving 27 combinations in all. The disc 6 is moved axially against spring return, by a lever 15 acting through pads 18, and is turned to preselect, by a dial 5 provided with a handle and a ball-detent to retain it in set positions, which are indicated by a fixed pointer 11 co-operating with graduations on the dial.</p> |
