A device for securely determining status and location information of mobile industrial plant using a standard analogue PSTN landline connection comprises a microcontroller 4, an interface 3 to allow the microcontroller to measure the status of a parameter, a GPS module 1, a DTMF decoder, a mobile phone network module 2 and a memory 8, wherein said device is mounted onto a mobile industrial plant and the microcontroller is configured to determine a specific sequence of DTMF tones and respond by controlling audio output to the mobile phone network module conveying the an audio representation of the name of a parameter and its numerical value and an audio representation of the nearest calculated reference point and the bearing of the device from that point. The parameter may be battery voltage or fuel level. |
