A dual proximity mode transaction terminal 400 comprises a mobile tablet 410 and a transceiver module 420. The mobile tablet 410 has a camera 436 for scanning a QR code so as to enable the transaction terminal 400 to retrieve data sent from a mobile communicator 480 via the QR code. The transceiver module 420 includes an acoustic transceiver 421 and an NFC sensor 425. The acoustic transceiver 421and the NFC sensor 425 are configured to enable bi-directional data communications between the mobile communicator 480 and the transaction terminal 400 via an acoustic communication channel and the NFC, respectively, when the mobile communicator 480 is positioned in proximity to the transceiver module 420. The transaction terminal 400 may be installed at a merchants side and configured to communicate with a payers mobile communicator 480 when performing a mobile transaction. |
