The present invention relates to a method for the segmentation and visualization of cell envelopes. A method is provided for the segmentation and visualization of cavities or orifices of the human body e.g sinus cavities, comprising the steps of manual pre-segmentation of cells by defining enclosing geometric primitives e.g. cuboid, sphere, cylinder or ellipse in a 3D patient image for generating initial cell envelopes. The contents of these envelopes are then analysed to identify the cell anatomy within pre-segmented geometric primitives and using the result of the analysis the cell envelope may be adjusted, possibly using computed voxel affiliations. The cell may then be visualised together with its properties e.g. volume, filling, disease status, drainage pathway and orifices. The segmentation and the cell properties may be used to determine cell linkage and/or recommend a surgical pathway. |
