The clamping elements are provided in the region of the base portion facing expansion on sliding surface. The sliding surface is provided adjacent to correspondent surface of base portion such that a vertical movement of the clamping element is transformed into a horizontal movement component of the clamping element. A positioning element is guided vertically from main portion so as to horizontally position the clamping element. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Apparatus for holding pipe such as drill pipe on oil drilling platform. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# Since the positioning element is guided vertically from main portion so as to horizontally position the clamping element, the tilting of clamping elements can be prevented during positioning of clamping elements. The reliable positioning of the clamping elements can be achieved. The secure handling of the pipes is improved. The design of the apparatus can be improved. The handling safety of the apparatus can be improved. The fixation of pipe can be easily and clearly viewed by providing upper opening in base portion.
