Electricity is generated by an apparatus comprising a static electricity collector 4 that has metal such as copper windings 12 that are on a magnetic material such as steel core 14; and are insulated except for portions 16 where the metal is exposed. Dry air is blown over the collector by a blower such as a fan (fig 1, 6), the air flow facilitating collection. Static electricity collected is converted to DC by inverter 5, to AC by inverter 8 and provided at the required voltage by a transformer. Windings 12 may be embedded in a reinforcing material 10 on the magnetic core that sets in air, such as epoxy cement, silicon adhesive or a glass reinforced material. There can be plural collectors connected to an inverter and the apparatus can be earthed. The collector may have south and north faces that are orientated using a compass (fig 8, 42) and air can be blown in either of the north to south directions transversely across the apparatus, but no electricity is generated if the air is blown from east to west. |
