The apparatus (10) has a rectifier device (G) that is interconnected in parallel with a current adjusting unit (TS). A half-bridge (H1) is provided in series-connection with the switches (S1,S2). An inductor (L) is connected to a connection point of the switches. A control unit is provided to control the switch (STS) of the current adjusting unit and the switch (S2) of the half bridge dependence on the voltage of the alternating current (AC) voltage source (W) and a current through the inductor, so that the electric energy storage device (B) is charged by the AC voltage source. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) method for charging electrical energy storage device from alternating current voltage source; and (2) computer program product for charging electrical energy storage device from alternating current voltage source.
