<p>A compact, efficient, reliable, low-cost pump system having an energy recovery apparatus is provided for a large capacity desalination plant using a reverse osmosis membrane (50). The pump system in a desalination plant using a reverse osmosis membrane (50), the system includes a seawater pressurization pump (100) and an energy recovery apparatus that recovers energy from high-pressure concentrated waste water through the reverse osmosis membrane (50) to use the energy as a driving force for the pressurization pump (100).
