A trim or seal strip structure of inverted channel section to straddle over with clamping retention an edge flange 9 or other support includes a core 5 completely enclosed as by extrusion in a covering 4 of a plastisized poly-vinyl chloride material, the core including a series of entirely separate spaced elements 5 of sheet metal disposed transversely of the strip structure and extending therealong and opposed yieldable ribs or lips 11, 12 carried by the covering 10 for clamping engagement with the flange 9. The lips 11, 12 have a longitudinal slit 14 to facilitate flexing thereof. There may be a pair of lips each side. Sealing members, e.g. draught excluders, such as 32, Fig. 8, may be provided on the covering integral therewith or as shown forming part of anchoring portion 36 which is suitably interlocked with the core covering 33 and carries one of the clamping ribs viz. 38. Several types of door seals are described. The strip is manufactured by extruding the covering on to a sheet metal strip 66, Fig. 16) having transverse slots 67 closely spaced and having their ends terminating short of the side edges of the strip, providing non-slotted edge portions 68, 69, or the strip may be given a series of transverse slots and stretched to provide the slots, and the slotted strip is then grooved as at 74, or otherwise weakened. After the coverning process, during which the layers on either side of the strip become bonded together through the slots, and while still warm the covering may be embossed &c. and then the edge portions 68, 69 which are left uncovered are broken off to leave between the covering layers the longitudinal series of unconnected transverse elements 5, Fig. 2, 15 Fig. 4. |
