<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal in which operability is improved regardless of whether a user is right-handed or left-handed. <P>SOLUTION: A so-called lateral slide type mobile phone which has a first case with a main touch panel 14 provided thereon and a second case with a sub-touch panel 18 provided thereon and is opened and closed by sliding in a width direction of the first case has a dominant hand information storage section 33 storing dominant hand information indicating whether a user is right-handed or left-handed. Furthermore, the mobile phone has a posture determining section 53 and an image generating section 57. The posture determining section determines whether a posture in an open state is a first posture in which a length direction of the first case becomes a vertical direction and the first case is held by the user so as to be positioned at a left side viewed from the user, or is a second posture in which the width direction becomes the vertical direction and the first case is held by the user so as to be positioned at an upper side viewed from the user.
