[Class 38 (ii)] A polyphase reactor core is formed to have two closed flux paths 1, 2, 3 and 4, 5, 6 lying in parallel planes and joined by legs 7, 8, 9. D.C. windings are placed on the first two paths which carry the total D.C. flux, while the same or separate windings on these paths or on the legs 7, 8, 9 carry polyphase A.C. Fig. 3 shows one possible method of connection, in which the A.C. and D.C. are both carried by the same windings L1, L2, L3 on the path 1, 2, 3 and L4, L5, L6 on the path 4, 5, 6. The windings are in parallel-series arrangement for the D.C. and parallel-star for the A.C., no A.C. reaching the external D.C. circuit. To provide good magnetic properties, the core may be built from H-shaped laminations with long and short arms, Fig. 4 (not shown), which are reversed alternately to stagger the joints.</p> |
