Provided are a method for providing a GUI for receiving a user command on a touch screen, and a multimedia device using the same. The method for providing a GUI comprises the steps of determining whether a command for expanding a GUI item is received; and expanding the GUI item. Therefore, the method enables a user to control GUI items more precisely, and can provide excellent visual effects when the user controls the GUI items.
