PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a memory system including a nonvolatile memory and a controller with reduced consumption power, and a program method.SOLUTION: The program method comprises: a step for receiving program data; a step for reading data stored in a memory cell; a step for, on the basis of the program data and the read data, encoding the program data by using at least one encoding scheme which is selected from a plurality of encoding schemes and generating flag data including encoding information; and a step for programming the encoded data and the flag data in a memory cell.
