PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus for suppressing the consumption of a developer by reducing the size of a test pattern for density control.SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes an image carrier, image forming means for forming the test pattern being a developer image for density control on the image carrier, and detection means including a light emitting element emitting light toward the image carrier or the test pattern and a first light receiving element and a second light receiving element, receiving the reflected light of the light emitted by the light emitting element, and controls the image forming conditions of the image forming means on the basis of the result of detecting the test pattern by the detection means. The diameter of the spot of the reflected light received by the first receiving element is smaller than the diameter of the spot of the reflected light received by the second receiving element and the number of sampling times of the test pattern along the movement direction of the surface of the image carrier by the first light receiving element is larger than the number of sampling times of the test pattern along the movement direction by the second light receiving element. |
