The present invention relates to a display device and a driving method thereof. The display device comprises a display panel and source drive ICs. The display panel includes data lines, gate lines intersecting with the data lines, and pixels arranged in a matrix form. The source drive ICs are connected to a timing controller through data line pairs to restore control information of a control data packet inputted from the timing controller and supply data voltages of video data to the data lines. The timing controller performs setting such that the number of packets of the control data packet transmitted during a horizontal blank period is smaller than the number of packets of the control data packet transmitted during a period other than the vertical blank period. The source drive ICs determines the number of the packets of the control data packet according to start information transmitted prior to the control data packet.
