861,555. Magnetic recording &c. heads. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Sept. 15, 1959 [Sept. 15, 1958], No. 31497/59. Class 40 (2). A stacked multi-track magnetic head in which adjacent channel cross-talk is minimized by the orientation of consecutive core-members as in Fig. 6 has two electric and one magnetic screens between each pair of core-members. The magnetic screens 19, 22 have oppositelydirected dish-form protrusions 19f, 19g, 22g, 22f, accommodated in oval holes 20g, 18g, 23g, 21g in the electric screens. U-form slots, such such as 20f, 21f co-operate with the adjacent recesses 19g, 21g to provide accommodation for windings 16a and the associated lead-out wires. A dowel through the " b " holes in the stack, together with the adjacent parts of the stacked components is machined away after encapsulation, a longitudinal slot 25 providing the magnetic gaps in all cores. In another form of the head where high resolution is required along the direction of tape-movement, the encapsulated head is split completely into two along the axis of the slot 25, the halves lapped and reassembled with a thin gap-spacer. |
