PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silkworm-cultured cell strain which can be subcultured in a serum-free medium and can be infected with a virus without being treated at a low temperature in the absence of a body fluid of an insect such as a silkworm or an animal- or insect-derived blood component.SOLUTION: A BmN4 cell which has the best results in study and industrial utilization fields was selected as a parent strain. As a result of attempts to culture the cell strain in serum-free media through continuous passages, created is a continuously subculturable BmN4 cell variant strain (BmN-SFM cell strain) which is semipermanently proliferable in a serum-free medium. The BmN-SFM strain can easily be infected with BmNPV without being subjected to conventionally required low temperature treatment or addition of a body fluid of a silkworm and has a recombination protein productivity as high as the BmN4 cell strain which is the parent cell strain thereof. |
