PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side body structure for a railway vehicle, the side body structure enabling an improved strength of an external plate at a pier panel part, despite the side body structure having a simple structure with undivided lateral frames.SOLUTION: A side body structure 1 for a railway vehicle is provided, the side body structure 1 comprising: an external plate 2 in which an opening for a window is formed; a plurality of lateral frames 3A that are arranged below the opening for the window and are joined to the external plate 2; and a vertical frame 4A that passes along a pier panel part 2a (or 2b) at the side of the opening of the window and crosses the lateral frames 3A. The vertical frame 4A comprises: a first flange part 43 that is joined to the external plate 2 at the pier panel part 2a (or 2b); and a second flange part 44 that separates from the external plate 2 at a position below the first flange part 43 so as to form a level difference from the first flange part 43, and that is joined to the lateral frames 3A. |
