PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously refine magnesium by a solar furnace with converged solar light as a heat source.SOLUTION: A retort previously filled with a magnesium reduction raw material or to be intermittently fed with the reduction raw material is installed in a vacuum vessel in which the front face or the whole is transparent to solar light, and the retort is heated by converged solar light to generate magnesium vapor. The magnesium vapor is introduced into a condenser thermally separated from the retort and connected therewith, and is condensed by natural cooling to obtain magnesium.
