Organosilicon compsn. comprises a mixt. of an acryloxyalkylsilane and a binder. The binder is (1) a water-sol. alcohol having at least two hydroxy gps. per molecule, (2) an aqs. mixt. of a film forming organic resin, (3) an organosilane or (4) boric acid. The compn. may be diluted with water. A suitable resin (2) is a trimellitic alkyd resin. The compsn. can be applied to various base members. Its most useful application is to siliceous materials, partic. glass fibres. Laminates prepd. from treated glass fibres have greatly improved flexural and compressive strength and retain these strengths when exposed to water. |
