A needle bearing, for supporting bottom rollers of spinning machine drafting mechanisms, comprises an annular outer race 33, Fig. 4, cooperating along its internal cylindrical surface with needles 26 and having, coaxially disposed on each side, a closure ring 27 and at least one lip-packing ring 31 which are spaced from the needles, a sleeve 32, coaxial with and thin in relation to the race, extending from the race at each axial end thereof to surround the associated packing and closure rings and to terminate in the region of an external bevelled surface 29 of the closure ring and co-operating with the associated closure ring and the race to enclose the associated packing ring or rings. The needles run on an inner race 24 secured to a shaft 19, 20. The rings 27 are mounted on the race 24 or they may be integral with the shaft. The sleeves 32, which may be integral with the race 33, form radial sealing gaps 34 with the rings 27. The packing rings 31 are fixed to the sleeves and are provided with lips 35 which slide on the race 24. Grease is fed through a nipple 15 to the bearing, to the space between the packing and closure rings and to the sealing gaps 34. The nipple 15 also serves to secure the outer race against rotation. In a modification, lip-packings are also mounted on the race 24 and sealingly engage the sleeves. In a further modification, Fig. 6, the needles 26 run on a hardened journal 38 on which are mounted packing rings 43 having extensions 42 with which sealing rings 39 of softer material engage. |
