Provides are a method for generating charging information based on machine-to-machine (M2M) services categorization and an apparatus thereof. The method for generating the charging information comprises the steps of: collecting information on resource usage of a terminal and generating charging based information (RU); generating charging information (CDR) based on the RU according to an internal charging function in a service productivity layer; and routing the generated CDR to respective corresponding external charging server on the basis of information on the RU, wherein the RU includes information on charging capabilities.
