The present invention relates to a method for editing such as electronic documents, more specifically to a method and device thereof for generating a table in the electronic documents through a touch screen display. The method for generating the table in the electronic documents through the touch screen display comprises the step of activating a table generating mode in the electronic document; the step of detecting inputs at a first position and a second position on the touch screen display; the step of generating the table including at least one unit area based on the distance between the positions in the electronic document corresponding to the first position and the second position, respectively. The present invention can efficiently generate the table in the electronic document through intuitive gesture input on the touch screen display.
