Provided are a display device and a method for controlling the display device. The display device comprises a display unit for displaying OSD menu; a storing unit; an input unit for receiving user commands; and a control unit for removing the OSD menu displayed in the display unit when an OSD menu display stop event shows up while the OSD menu is displayed in the display unit, temporarily storing the OSD menu in the storage unit at a point when the OSD menu has been removed, and controlling the display unit to display the temporarily stored OSD menu when an OSD menu resume event shows up within a preset time.
