发明名称 Improvements in or relating to ball joints
摘要 924,972. Knitting; laminates. - FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. June 15, 1961 [June 15, 1960], No. 21608/61. Drawings to Specification. Classes 74 (2) and 140. [Also in Group XXV] A bearing liner for a ball-and-socket joint (see Group XXV) is formed of a knitted fabric consisting at least in part of fibres of low friction synthetic resin material e.g. polytetrafluoroethylene or linear polyethylene. The liner is preferably knitted in sock form, so that at each stage in the knitting the most recently formed row of stitches lies on a closed contour the length of which decreases either at the beginning or end of the knitting or both. The liner may include threads of cotton, wool or acrylic resin which can be shrunk by treatment with steam or chemicals after the liner has been fitted over the ball. A plastic back-up layer may be provided between the liner and the socket, cotton threads being included in the liner to ensure adhesion. The back-up layer may be formed by injection moulding a thermoplastic material or by moulding or casting a thermosetting resin. Suitable materials are epoxy resins or nylon reinforced with glass fibre. A plurality of socks may be fitted over the ball, the outer socks being of cotton or cotton impregnated with synthetic resin, preferably a thermosetting resin which can be cured after assembly in the joint.
