The invention relates to engine construction. The aim of the invention consists in that a mechanical resistance is created in the combustion chamber in order to initiate a detonation, in the form of a slot which is formed between the head and the piston by virtue of the fact that projections of the piston enter into a depression in the head, which prevents accelerated combustion of the fuel-air mixture, and also in turn this provides the possibility of raising the degree of compression of the fuel-air mixture, in order to partially avoid detonation, and also to reduce the destructive force of detonation. The height of the projections and the depressions can be varied from zero to an optimum level depending on the type of fuel, and the transverse dimension of the projections and the depressions will be determined by the mechanical strength thereof given minimal dimensions.
