The light curtain (1) has a transmitter unit (2) comprising transmitters (5) emitting multiple light rays (4) and a receiving unit (3) comprising multiple receivers (6). Each transmitter is so assigned a receiver that the light rays of the transmitters meet on the assigned receiver at open monitoring region. The transmitter and the receiver are cyclically activated during a measurement cycle. An evaluation unit (8) is provided, in which an object detection signal is generated depending on receiving signals from receivers. The transmitters are controlled for generation of transmitter light pulses by a regulated current source.
