PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide "a wireless communication system and power reduction method for wireless communication" for reducing power consumption in the wireless communication system which makes it possible to perform hands-free speech by Bluetooth and file transfer by a WLAN.SOLUTION: A wireless communication system comprising file transfer units 11 and 21 for performing file transfer through a WLAN and hands-free speech units 14 and 24 for performing hands-free speech through Bluetooth comprises Bluetooth starting units 13 and 23 which start the Bluetooth by using the WLAN and wirelessly connect an on-vehicle apparatus 10 and a mobile terminal 20 by using the started Bluetooth when standby units 12 and 22 detect an origination call or incoming call. The wireless communication system makes the Bluetooth be in a non-operation state before origination or incoming of a hands-free call occurs, and starts the Bluetooth to enable hands-free speech at a time point when origination or incoming of the hands-free call occurs.
