PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact image forming apparatus that is manufactured at low costs, has a rimless image formation mode to reduce a workload of a user, and controls a toner pattern between sheets to provide high stability of image quality during continuous image formation.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 100 includes an image carrier 10 on which a toner image is carried, and a transfer unit 22 including a transfer member 7 that transfers the toner image on a recording sheet conveyed in a predetermined conveyance direction, and can perform rear-end rimless image formation to form a toner image without providing a rear-end margin to a recording sheet, and double-sided image formation to form images on both sides of a recording sheet. When a toner image formed on a marginless image area 70 having no rear-end margin has a width W in a direction orthogonal to a recording sheet conveyance direction below a predetermined value, the image forming apparatus 100 permits the double-sided image formation, and when the width W is equal to or more than the predetermined value, prohibits the double-sided image formation. |
