A LOW PROFILE CAN DESCENDER

A system for lowering a stack formed from a plurality of cylindrical sections into a shaft, such as a mine shaft. The system comprises a plurality of strand jacks configured to work in concert to lower the stack while the stack is under a compressive load. In particular, cables from the strand jacks are secured to a bottommost one of the plurality of cylindrical sections forming the stack. The system may further comprise a base frame configured to accommodate the plurality of strand jacks.
