A sealing member is equipped with a metal lid portion and elastic shaft, supporting protrusion, and tip portions, wherein the tip portion has an engaging portion, the diameter of which is larger than that of an injection opening, and the shaft portion has a diameter smaller than that of the injection opening and a shaft length longer than the thickness of the circumferential edge portion of the injection opening. A hermetic battery manufacturing method comprises: a temporary sealing step of pressure-contacting the engaging portion to the circumferential edge portion of the injection opening; a degassing step of forming a communication path by pressing the tip portion to such an extent that the lid portion does not make contact with a battery case and the tip portion is apart from the circumferential edge portion of the injection opening; and a permanent sealing step of pressing the tip portion until the lid portion makes contact with the battery case to compress the supporting protrusion portion between the lid portion and the battery case, bonding the lid portion to the battery case, and thereby sealing the injection opening while the communication path remains formed inside the lid portion.
