PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly efficient photoelectric conversion element and a solar cell.SOLUTION: The photoelectric conversion element of an embodiment includes: a photoelectric conversion layer in which a p-type compound semiconductor layer and an n-type compound semiconductor layer of a group I-III-VIcompound or a group I-II-IV-VIcompound are homo-junctioned; a transparent electrode; an intermediate layer having a film thickness of 1 to 10 nm inclusive on average on the n-type layer between the photoelectric conversion layer and the transparent electrode; and a window layer between the intermediate layer and the transparent electrode.
