A transistor 3 in a sealed housing consisting of cups 5 with opposing flanges 5a is mounted on a support 4 the part on which the transistor rests being of a material with a coefficient of expansion similar to that of the semi-conductor material. If the wafer is of germanium it may be soldered to a " Kovar " (Registered Trade Mark) support on a shrunk copper ring 9 supported between flanges 5a by cold welding. In the construction of Fig. 2 ring 8a is of " Kovar " and the transistor and support 9a are soldered to it.
